Gold Alternatives

July 28th, 2011

“I really want that epic.”

You’re staring at the AH, and you’re fully aware that you don’t have the gold to get that purple into your mailbox. But what can you do? Well, there’s two options available to you, both with significantly different outcomes. Option one, is you go out into the world and grind that gold – do daily quests, grind high-value mobs, and so forth.

The second involves buying gold, and this is possibly the worst thing you could do. Not only are you risking your account (and we mean permanent closure – imagine losing six level 85 characters), but you’re actually destroying the server’s economy.

An MMORPG, like many online gaming experiences from Partypoker.com to Farmville, relies on currency and a sense of economy. But if you bring in a load of currency that was farmed in a way unnatural to the world, or generate money from stolen items (disenchanting a hacked player’s gear and selling shards on AH, or even selling their items direct to vendor), the economy swifly begins to decline in health.

What’s the impact? Well, the more you buy, the higher prices go on the server, and the more you’ll need to buy next time, which will raise prices even more… It’s a vicious cycle of supply and demand that can out-price items from the majoriy of players who want to play the traditional way.

But there are so many ways to get cash in WoW these days that you’d be crazy to buy gold anyway. Quests pay out loads, and even after you’re done levelling, it doesn’t mean you can’t do them! Also try the following:

1) Again, doing daily quests – they take around ten minutes, and pay really well.

2) Grinding mobs – find a spot that few people know of on the server (you never know, you might just find Catclysm’s Elemental Plateau), and grind that place like crazy!

3) Trading – using the AH like a pro can make you a lot of cash.

So take a look around – there’s plenty of places to rake in the moolah, and if you’re heading over to a goldseller’s site, consider this – every copper given to you buy a goldseller that you spend is another copper price-raise. Think smart, and don’t ruin your server.

We’re Back!

January 6th, 2010

So the site has been offline a while. I finally fixed the problem and we are now back in business, and on a new hosting platform to boot.

I have removed the forums as they were a vulnerability to the site, so for now, we will just run with the blog area.

Apologies for the long MIA, I hope we can get you up to speed on all things NoGold very soon!

Current Google Adsense RMT Blacklist added

February 19th, 2008

Toady we added an extra Blacklist for current gold sellers on Adsense next of the overall list we already have. The new list will be checked and updated weekly. Because the overall list has over 200 sites in it, it cannot be used in Google Adsense anymore. There for the new and smaller list has been created, and it will change more frequently.

Credits to BBR for the initial list.

IGE and Affinity Media

November 29th, 2007

MMO-Gamer.com has posted an article on the IGE and Affinity Media relationship.

Recently uncovered court documents (PDF) have revealed a potentially damning piece of information with regards to Affinity Media:

Defendant, IGE U.S., LLC n/k/a Affinity Media Holdings, LLC, (“IGE US”)

“N/k/a” is a legal term meaning “now known as.” In other words, according to United States law, IGE and Affinity Media are one in the same.

Steven Crews goes on to talk about how Affinity Media has tried to break the ties with IGE, but apparently the US Federal Court System still finds them to be one and the same.

CNN.com Cheating Article

October 2nd, 2007

While this article focuses mainly on cheating, it also looks at the impact of RMT as well. It is an interesting read, and being on CNN, further shows that video gaming, and all that comes with it, is becoming more and more mainstream.

Here are some of the highlights of the article:

  • Many video game valuables can be sold for real money
  • Some players use exploits, known as cheats, to get advantage
  • Six-thousand pieces of gold can sell for $420 in “World of Warcraft”
  • Intel, other companies, working on ways to root out cheaters
